Description: | ![]() Have you ever sung in a choir? Perhaps at school, or university, or in a local church? Have you thought about taking up singing again as a hobby? The health benefits from singing are now well established and more people are taking up singing as a result. Reading Phoenix Choir sings a selection of music from the 16th century up to the present day, both religious and non-religious (mainly a cappella). This includes music by Byrd, Tallis, Victoria, Stanford, Rachmaninov, Bruckner, Rutter, Gjeilo, Lauridsen, Whitacre, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and Coldplay! Our concerts include music that is both serious and fun; there is always something that appeals to everyone in our audiences. Reading Phoenix Choir distinguishes itself by aiming for 'professional' standards in its singing and by performing most of its concerts entirely from memory, which is an excellent way of keeping your mental faculties in good working order and is appreciated by those choir members who find sight-reading more challenging. Like all choirs, Reading Phoenix Choir has a natural turnover of members and is always looking for new people to join the choir. We run Open Rehearsals to allow those who are interested in finding out what the choir is like to come along and experience a rehearsal and meet some of the current members. All adult singers are welcome. We are currently recruiting only for lower voice parts, so for this Open Rehearsal we are specifically interested in hearing from tenors and basses. If you have enjoyed singing in a choir in the past and would like to come to this Open Rehearsal, do contact us to book a place or to find out more about it. |
