The following review of our concert in Swiss Church, London on 23rd September comes from a reviewer for Gramophone magazine:
The white-washed walls of the lofty Swiss Church in London provided a slightly austere setting for what turned out to be a programme of beautifully-honed, warm and polished choral delight conducted with great sensitivity by Christopher Hann.
It was a good idea to interpolate four movements from Howells’ exquisite Requiem between other sacred pieces. The Howells apart, the highlight in the first half was Lotti’s Crucifixus, its scrumptious suspensions and sequences perfectly judged. The varied, lighter second half showed the Phoenix singers in all their versatile glory. David Bowie’s Life on Mars lingered in the memory for days after this splendid concert.
