Come & Sing, Rutter: Feel the Spirit, Greyfriars Church, Reading
Come and join Reading Phoenix Choir for an afternoon of music making as we learn and perform John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit – a cycle of seven familiar spirituals that showcases the rich heritage of the spiritual (Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho; Steal Away; I Got a Robe; Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child; Ev’ry time I Feel the Spirit; Deep River; and When the Saints Go Marching In).
African-American Spirituals are some of the most famous tunes across the world today and they have fired the imagination of composers, performers and audiences for over 100 years. It is these spirituals that sparked the beginnings of Jazz which in turn led to Rock n Roll and the Pop music we have today.
Such famous tunes combined with the genius that is John Rutter really is a match made in musical heaven. From Swing Low Sweet Chariot to Deep River to When the Saints Go Marching In, there really is something for everyone. Whether you are someone who just enjoys singing in the shower and has wanted to try singing in a choir, or someone with a lot of choral singing experience you will find this a rewarding, fun and engaging afternoon of music making.
